Bubble Bomb!

Try this! The freshmen class is studying reactions. I know this is a little elementary, but it's a lot of fun to make a mess! Do it outside. Here's some links:
Good luck!

Back to posting pics!

We've been doing some interesting stuff in class lately, mostly with boxes. And it has made for some pretty good pics! So here's a link for you newbies to the blog and can't find those pics:

Check them out, set up a Yahoo account and comment on the pics. And don't forget to comment to these posts. I'm thinking about taking this blog and going bigtime with it, so I'm looking to see how much it is used before I buy a real web adress for it. How does jhscience.com sound? Let me know, comment, show me how much you check it out, leave some suggestions for this site and how we can make it so that you'll use it even more!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back VJH & VHS! Here we go again, ready to start a new school year. It's always an exciting time as we start back. Sorry that summer seemed so short. But look at it this way, we are scheduled to get out in the middle of May! Rather than June. That is, if we don't have a winter like last year!
So here's what I'd like for this new, start-of-the-year post. How was your summer? Anything exciting go on? Are you ready to be back? Do you have any goals for this upcoming year? Anything else? Give a shout out to some people!
All that's left to say is; welcome back students, welcome back!

Summer is finally here! Summer chat post.

At the time of this post, we've been on summer vacation for two days! It was a long time coming, but I'm glad it's here now. And I'm sure you are too!
Let's make this a summer chat post. Leave messages for friends, check in with me, or just a shout out to anyone that visits the blog. Whatever you've got in mind. And hey, if you're bored, create a blog and I'll link to it. I'll be on here for help if you need it.
And don't forget to find me on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/parkeryouth I check it about as much as I do this.
So see ya somewhere on the web or out and about. Definately in August. . . 13th to be exact! Later!

Make a Blog!

Hey, when you've got a few minutes, create a blog of your very own. HERE is the link to get you started. You've got to create a Google account first. It's real easy, just use an e-mail address that you already have. After that, it pretty much walks you through the process of making your blog. If you need some help, respond here. And if you finish one that you would like me to link to, leave that as a comment here as well. Have fun and good luck! Later!

New Pics!

Have you checked out the Flickr pics recently? If not, there are a lot of new pictures loaded up. Pics from the Science Club trip, catapult build/competition, and just classroom stuff. Just like before, the best way to see them is to open the sets on the right side of the Flickr page. So go check 'em out - JHScience Flickr Pics.
Also, what kind of plans do you have for summer (when it finally gets here)? Leave some comments telling what you'll have going on!
Only a little over 2 weeks guys! Keep it up, it'll be over soon! Later!

Catapults!

Alright 8th grade, it's catapult time! Trebuchets to be exact. Here are some links to get you started. You can also find your own sites. Do a little research and check out what works best. HINT: pay special attention to the placement of the fulcrum.
That should get you going! Later!

ACCESS DENIED!

Our blog is now blocked! I found out Tuesday morning that there is a new blocking program installed here at school and that it now blocks blogger.com, blogspot.com and flickr.com as well as other sites not previously blocked. I turned in those sites to our administrators to see if they could unblock them. So now we wait. We may or may not have them unblocked, we'll just have to wait and see. Until then, ACCESS DENIED!!!
Oh and congratulations on finishing the MAP test! How was it? Easy? Hard? How do you think you did on each test? Let me know in the comments!

MAP and the Rewards!

Someone mentioned that they were dreading the testing weeks because they take so long. It does take a while, but it's only an hour at a time. Yeah, it's not so cool to stretch it out into two weeks, but it won't mess with your schedules too much. Just do you best during those times.

We are looking into a couple different things for MAP reward. In addition to the incentives posted, we may try to go on a trip somewhere (don't know where yet) and a Luau may be in the works.

There are a lot of things going on in this last few weeks of school. Do your best during this last stretch and try to keep up. It been a good year so far, let's finish it strong! Later!

Message Board Part 2 - Topic: MAP Test

Here's part 2 of our in-blog message board. The topic of choice is the MAP Test. Let me know what you think about it, good or bad. Maybe you have some tips when it comes to taking the test. How do you expect to do on it? Leave some comments, chat back and forth with each other, help each other out. And of course, keep up with the MAP review in all of your classes! Later!

Alivia

There was a request for a current pic of my daughter so that you can see how she's growing. I'm more than happy to show off pics! She's growing super fast and getting into everything! That, and she's the smartest kid I know (but I'm a little partial)! So here ya go!

Homework Help!

Ok, it's now time to make this blog useful to some extent. It's great to play Launchball and look at pics, but you need to get some educational use out of it too. So here are some links that will help with what we are currently studying in class. Hand-picked by me!

Let's start with 8th grade. We are currently studying, you guessed it, the digestive system:
Your Stomach & Digestive System
The Virtual Body
The Human Digestive System
Human Digestive System - from Enchanted Learning
Your Digestive System - from the Yucky! site on Discovery Kids
Worldbook Online - you may need to login. User: viburnum - Password: bluejay at home. User: ironco - Password: bluejay at school. This works for all sorts of stuff. Why buy the thousand+ dollar encyclopedia set?

For 7th and 9th grades, you guys are currently studying the same thing - Electricity:
Physics Homework Help
Basics of Electricity - there are more specific topics on the left side of that page
Fear of Physics
What is Electricity?
How Stuff Works - Electricity
Science Made Simple - Electricity
Electricity Info - this is a PDF paper, so it may take a while to download
Electricity/Magnetism - a ton of different links on one page
Physics 4 Kids - Electricity/Magnetism
Worldbook Online - for user and password, look at the 8th grade entry

Alright, there's some help. Use it. And feel free to ask questions on here. You can post a comment on this post or on the message board post. I think I'm doing pretty good at responding to items, so please, leave a comment or question. I'll do my best to respond to it ASAP. Later!

JHScience Message Board - Part 1

Alright, I've been noticing you guys leaving messages to each other and you kinda chat back and forth. Well, let me give you a post where you can do that. Leave messages to each other here, chat back and forth, ask questions, whatever. This post is for random chatter, no specific topic! Enjoy! Later!

The Educational Fair has come and gone!

Well, it's over. I appreciate all the work that many of you put into your projects. I graded each one and entered them in the gradebook. Many of them turned out quiet well. Good job to all of the first and second place winners! The judges were excited for the turn out of projects.
Sorry I didn't make it to the actual Ed. Fair, my Saturday got covered up quickly. If anyone got any digital pictures of the event, let me know, we'll put them up on our Flickr page.
Well done, I'm glad things can kinda get back to normal! Have a great weekend, see you on Monday! Later!

2 Days till Due-Day

The countdown is on! Be sure to bring your completed science projects to class with you on Friday. I will try to set it up so that we can take your projects to the gym during your class period. Add to final touches to your project over the next couple of nights. Check for spelling and punctuation, be sure to include all parts of the scientific method, type everything if you can, and make certain that you include an abstract with your project. An abstract is just a one page or more summary of your entire project - from start to finish. The abstract will just set on the table in front of your project so that the judges can read about it. Good luck! Later!

Science Fair Help

Here are a few websites you can go to for help on your science fair project. Especially if you're one of those people that still haven't started it yet! Here are the links:
Science Fair Central on the Discovery Channel
Science Buddies
All Science Fair Projects
Science Project
Super Science Fair Support Center
Those are just a few to start with. Remember though, it needs to be a project that can answer a question! It must also be something that you can measure. If you need other help, I will check this blog from time to time this weekend. Just leave your question as a comment. Projects are due on Friday, March 14 - a week from today! Get 'em finished! Later!

Let's begin!

Alright, I don't have enough to do, so why not, I'll startup another blog. I haven't entirely decided what will be on here yet. Maybe some help with your homework, test help, places to find information, science club info, and possibly the upcoming science olympiad for next year. So let me know by way of comment what you would like to see here and if you would actually use this site. You guys will play a big part in the making of this blog, so keep the comments coming. Thanks and we'll see where we go from here. Later!
